Keeping Migrant Children in School, Against All Odds

The Challenge: Interrupted Learning for Migrant Children

Every year, over 5 lakh sugarcane-cutting laborers from the Beed district of Maharashtra migrate for work, disrupting their children’s education. Many either drop out or struggle with severe learning gaps due to unstable schooling and lack of support.

GramHunar Fellowship Educational Program

The GramHunar Fellowship program ensures continuity in learning for children from migrant families. The GramHunar Fellows (Trained community educators) work in schools to bridge gaps in foundational literacy, numeracy, and life skills through personalized support—helping children stay connected to education despite migration challenges. GramHunar Fellows also work closely with parents to increase their involvement in their children’s education.
